Dr. Bruce Mabis has lived in Evansville for the last 46 years. He started teaching Computer Science at UE in 1975. Dr. Mabis has taught at UE and three other universities all in the tristate area. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Vanderbilt University in 1992, specializing in software engineering. Away from academics he enjoys time with his wife, three sons, and three grandkids. In his spare time he finds a little time to do things like cut firewood and perform magic whenever he gets the chance.

Dr. John Thurlow MacDonald is a Visiting Professor of Electrical Engineering. John is a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Senior Member of the IEEE. Dr. MacDonald has extensive experience in industry as an electronic hardware designer and software engineer along with many years teaching undergraduate engineering. In his spare time, John enjoys singing in choir and playing the ancient sport of curling.

Dr. Maxwell Omwenga is the Program Director of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Evansville (UE). With a deep passion for innovation and education, Dr. Omwenga has dedicated his career to advancing the fields of machine learning, cyber-physical systems, and edge computing. Before joining UE, he made significant contributions as a Data Science Researcher with the Networked Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Dr. Omwenga's expertise and dedication have earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Global Scholar Grant in 2024, the ARSAF Grant in 2023, and the Technology Symposium Award in 2019. His research, which has been published in renowned journals and conferences such as the IEEE IoT Journal and the IEEE International Electro Information Technology, focuses on leveraging modeling, simulation, optimization, and machine learning to address real-world complex sequential decision problems.

Among his notable works are explorations into cutting-edge technologies, such as Cognitive Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), where he has significantly advanced subsurface object detection using deep reinforcement learning and edge computing. His publications like "ScanCloud: Holistic GPR Data Analysis for Adaptive Subsurface Object Detection" and "Autonomous Cognitive GPR Based on Edge Computing and Reinforcement Learning" demonstrate his innovative approach to integrating AI with physical systems.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Omwenga's creative spirit shines through his passion for music. He plays the bass guitar, violin, and congas & bongos, bringing a rhythmic energy to both his work and life. His commitment to the community is evident in his volunteer work at the local community kitchen and his dedication to teaching robotics to elementary school students. Dr. Omwenga's blend of technical expertise, creativity, and community spirit makes him a valuable mentor and leader at UE.

Dr. Hyunsoung Park is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Evansville. Dr. Hyunsoung Park received a BS in Architectural Engineering from Hongik University in South Korea, a MS in Construction Management from Texas A&M, and most recently his PhD in Construction Management from the University of Florida. Dr. Park has industry experience as a Project Manager for Hyundai and as an Air Force Sergeant in the Republic of Korea Air Force, serving on the Civil Engineering Squadron. He spent time instructing students during both his masters and doctoral programs. His current research areas include building information modeling, construction safety, natural disaster management, and knowledge, information, and data management. Dr. Park’s favorite thing about the University of Evansville is that regardless of position or status, people think of each other, care for one another, and try to help each other. In his personal time, Dr. Park enjoys traveling. He’s lived in the US for over 8 years and is looking forward to exploring the Midwest.

Dr. Ying Ying Seah

Dr. Ying Ying Seah is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Evansville (UE) and holds a Ph.D. in Technology from Purdue University. Before joining UE, she served as an Assistant Professor of Creative Technologies at Oakland City University. Informed by research, Dr. Seah is committed to integrating innovative pedagogies into her classroom. Her research interests include STEM Education, Design Thinking, Argumentation, Simulation-based Learning, and Learning Analytics.

Born and raised in Sungai Besar, Malaysia, Dr. Seah is fluent in four languages. She is deeply committed to her Christian faith and is passionate about connecting with students outside the classroom, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, DIY projects, gardening, and travelling.

Dr. Unger is the author of the textbook, Analytical Fracture Mechanics, which was originally published in hard cover by Academic Press (1995), and later reprinted in paperback form by Dover Publications in 2001 and again in 2011. He was awarded the Sadelle and Sydney Berger Award for scholarly activity by the University of Evansville in 2005, the Dean's Teaching Award in the School of Engineering and Computer Science in 2006, the Dean’s Research Award in 2022, and designated a UE Global Scholar in 2007. He was a professionally licensed engineer for twenty years, and has served on the UE faculty for 21 years. In retirement, Dr. Unger continues to do research and publish technical papers.
